It was just OK. The spicy scallop nigiri was really disappointing, its my favorite elsewhere, the scallop didn't seem fresh. The sushi rice was somewhat gummy and too dense. As well the food was generally over salted even before dipping in soy. However, the service was very good, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. It may rate well for this area but I have certainly had better. I don't think I would go back.

The other reviews were right! We went the first night of our vacation and did the $20 all-you-can-eat sushi. It was incredible. I have never eaten that much sushi in one sitting and I'm not sure I could do it again. Even without the great deal, this place is worth it. My picks - golden roll, wuz up b roll and asparagus roll! We also had eel and cucumber, spider roll and lobster roll. Everything was fresh and carefully prepared! Yum!

After spending a great day on St. Pete Beach, I went to Tokyo Bay Sushi last Saturday, and all I can say is...wow. Like most places in Pinellas County, it's tucked into a strip mall, but once you walk in, you find yourself in a bright lovely restaurant that also offers outdoor seating on the water--the first sushi bar in this area I've found that does this. Their menu is very imaginative--I'm a complete sushi whore, and they had things I've never seen offered before--delicious pompano sashimi, interesting rolls. The best part was the fish--it was so fresh. Besides the pompano sushi, the best thing I had was the white tuna--it was so buttery it melted in your mouth. I'm looking forward to going back. The one disappointment was the winelist--chardonnay, merlot, white zin and chablis--all by a no-name winery. When they spruce up their wine list with a couple of great whites--Mason S-Blanc or a good Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio by the bottle or glass--they'll need a crowbar to get me out of there.

My last review was over two years ago. During that time I've found some decent cooked sushi places (the only kind I like) such as Origami Sushi and Oishi at Channelside. But I keep coming back to Tokyo Bay and declare it STILL the best cooked sushi of Tampa Bay. Ask for a lobster roll with panko breading (instead of tempura). Add onion or avocado and top it with seared beef. This roll gives new meaning to "surf & turf". Also try the Kentucky roll (chicken tempura) topped with avocado. It's a work of art. It's quite a drive from Tampa, but worth ever mile. It's as good as it gets.

Very good sushi at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere here does however leave much to be desired.

Dont waste your money here. I was dismally dissapointed. We took our daughter here for a celebration because of the on line reviews. The only thing worth ingesting here is the Sake. The service was lousy, took over an hour to eat some dinner at 7 pm ! The place is filthy...and so are the restrooms. For god sake clean it up !

Not the best sushi I've ever had, but it was filling and tasty. The service was friendly and helpful. I'd suggest the Deadliest Catch roll! And some green tea ice cream.

I had such high hopes for this place but can honestly say that I would never go back there. Firstly, the food was pretty sub par. We got the fresh spring rolls (these were okay), the shrimp tempura appetizer (not very well seasoned but then again, tempura usually isn't), and ginger salad/miso soup (not half bad). The sushi didn't taste fresh at all. The only universally liked roll was the crystal vegetarian roll. We even sent a roll back - something we NEVER do, but the grouper in the Tampa roll was extremely fishy. The service was just okay and overall, we were very disappointed.

Miso soup, edamame, and shrimp shumai to start were so so. I liked the miso soup, it is the same as everywhere but they make it a touch stronger than most places. The edamame were average as well. The shumai were almost definitely purchased frozen and reheated for us. Ok, but if I wanted them out of the freezer I could make them at home. Berigu, Rainbow, Sunset, and Wuz Up Be rolls for dinner were great. They came out promptly and were fresh and delicious. As mentioned on other reviews, the service was slow and a bit negligent. We arrived and stood in the doorway for what seemed like 5 minutes before someone came to help us. We had an Open Table reservation for 7:15, but when we arrived the hostess told us they don't take reservations in the evening, and that they didn't have a table unless we wanted to sit outside. It just so happened we did want to, but I agree with other posters in that I felt that the staff saw customers arriving as an inconvenience. Also, 0 refills on the drinks, which is always a downer for me. So, average. I'd go here happily if we lived in the neighborhood, but I won't make a special trip again.

I went to Tokyo Bay for the second time last night. I had driven by many times, but a Groupon offer made me decide to try it out. The first time I went, I took my daughter (the only person in my family who was willing to try the place out). We presented the Groupon and had a meal that was more expensive that I would usually have gotten. I had two sushi rolls and my daughter had a non-sushi meal. While I have tried the raw fish side of sushi, I prefer the cooked stuff, so I had a Tampa Roll and a Tokyo Bay roll. I was impressed by the artistry of the presentation. The food was good and fresh, but the flavors were not as strong as I expected. We sat at the sushi bar and were able to chat with one of the sushi chefs while he worked his craft. Service was very good overall. At the end of the meal, we were told that we were there on the first night of a black-out period on the Groupon that was in the fine print, so I had to pay full price -- that was disappointing, and it would have been nice to have been told before we ordered. My second trip was solo -- the Groupon was about to expire and my daughter was not available. I knew I had $26 to use up. I was surprised to see how busy the place was on a Tuesday night, and had to wait about 20 min for single seat at the sushi bar (on a corner behind the tropical fish tank). It took the waiter a while to get to me, but he took the Groupon with no problem. I ordered the King Lobster Roll and a Potsticker appetizer with a diet coke. I did not realize that there was an all-you-can-eat option for $23 or I probably would have done that. The King Lobster Roll was delivered first by the sushi chef, and I must admit I was hugely impressed by the presentation -- it was art on a plate. Tempura Lobster in front with a nice spicy red & white sauce beautifully put on the plate, and five huge slices of a roll (way to big for a single bite), with an empty lobster take shell as part of the plate garnish. Everything tasted fresh. I was about half-way through with my main dish when the potstickers finally arrived -- they were good and nicely presented but not remarkable. I was not impressed with my service on the second trip. Not bad, but I would have liked my soda to be refilled a couple more times. The waiter should have brought the appetizer before the main dish, and he only "checked in on my" once (the one time he refilled my drink). Admittedly, the place was packed and I was a solo diner using a Groupon, but the service could have been better. My biggest complement is the presentation of the food -- very artistic. My biggest problem was the weak service on my second trip, and look out for a black-out period if you use a Groupon. I doubt that I will go back to Tokyo Bay very often, but I would not hesitate to bring a friend who liked sushi, as I thought it was a good place for a social-type dinner where you could talk about and share the food -- preferably on a night when the place is less busy.

This was my first experience at Tokyo Bay Sushi. While it is a bit out of the way and requies a small toll to reach this part of St. Pete Beach from US275, it was worth the drive. The quality of the Spicey Conch, Tokyo Bay, and White Tuna rolls was excellent. The quantity of rice to fish was just right and the prices were reasonable. Service was very good and the unfiltered cold saki was excellent. Overally, I highly recommend this establishment and look forward to experiencing the sushi and sashimi on the next visit.

Nothing is more unfortunately American than 'All you can eat.' I almost want to write it like a redneck would sputter it around a mouthful of half chewed fried crap: 'all yew kin et!' All you can eat (all yew kin et) sushi is generally even worse: sushi at its best is pure, minimalist heaven. Some fish, some well seasoned rice, a glass of sake (or reisling), and some soy sauce. All you can eat joints go heavy on the krab sticks, light on the production values, and generally do it a disservice. Tokyo Bay is not like that. They've managed to bring a semblance of class to the idea of the bottomless plate. They do it in two ways: 1) you can only order three rolls to start, and then one at a time after that. This guarantees that, if you're an endurance sport afficionado and need a million calories, you can get it. If you're Joe the Eater, you'll eat what you really want and hopefully stop there. 2)They offer all of their rolls on the AYCE menu, but the fancy stuff is a few bucks extra per roll. No longer will you be stuck with infinite amounts of crap spicy tuna or veggie rolls. It gets crowded, and eating at the bar gets a bit tight, but there are pleasant water views available on the balcony and they've got a decent selection of Japanese beers to sip while you wait for the table. St. Pete, you have impressed me.

Tokyo Bay is solid. We are fans but it's not as good as you can get. The sushi was very good but I just can't give them the full five star treatment. We went with the whole family, which was a pretty good size group. One of the reasons I can't give it the full five is because the service was a little slow. I kept having to ask for water refills, which is understandable when you are with a big group like that, but that's an important thing from a service standpoint. We started with some miso soup and an order of edamame. Then we got a bunch of rolls as a group and shared everything. Some of the highlights were the deadliest catch roll, the red dragon roll, and the Mexican roll. The sushi is good and that's what we were there for, but next time we go I hope the service can pick it up a notch.

The food was great and the service was excellent! The waitress went above and beyond explaining in detail what our options were since we had 3 toddlers in our party. I'm a fan!

Went this afternoon with my family & we had a terrible time... Customer service was some of the worst I've ever had. The waitress seemed high... The guy cooking our food looked like he was in distress. Took FOREVER for the food to come out... The good was okay so I decided to give it 2 stars instead of 1 but it was not a pleasant experience overall.

I love Tokyo Bay and have been dining here for well over 15 years now. So many "sushi" joints in our area have an Asian-fusion sort of menu, with only a few true Japanese offerings. Well call me a snob or a purist, but when I go out to get JAPANESE sushi, I hope to see other authentic Japanese menu items to also enjoy. No silly Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese fusion here. Their non-sushi menu is 100% Japanese, and that is a very good thing. All entrees come with real miso soup and a small salad with that oh-so-special ginger dressing. Their miso soup is authentic, and tastes of a dashi made with real kombu and bonito flakes. It's always tough for me to order here, as they have so many excellent entrees. The bento box is a great way to sample several of them at once. Their chicken katsu, teriyaki, tempura, and all of their noodles dishes are always on-point and may be the best Japanese fare I've ever been served, without making a drive to Orlando. And yes, their sushi is great as well. My Mom used to live in fear of sushi, until I introduced her to the cooked maki roll type. Now she really enjoys the Mexican (shrimp), Tampa (grouper), and Kentucky (chicken) rolls. But fans of sashimi and other raw sushi will be pleasantly pleased. Diner beware: Tokyo Bay is fairly small and not far from our lovely beaches. So of course this place can become packed at peak dining hours, especially during our tourist season! After writing this, I can hear their special miso soup calling. I need to visit again soon...

Well, I didn't actually eat here because I got up and left after being ignored for 10 minutes. I rarely write negative reviews, and especially not 1-star reviews, but this incident still doesn't sit well with me and it happened weeks ago. We came here on a Tuesday night and it appeared somewhat busy. Not slammed by any means, but a few people waiting for tables. The staff appeared completely overwhelmed by the "crowd." The hostess immediately rubbed me the wrong way when she came running after me from the kitchen when I tried to sit at the sushi bar. After being corralled back in the waiting area, a manager came and told us we could sit at the sushi bar. We proceeded to sit at an awkward corner of the sushi bar. We looked over the menu, picked out our sushi, but no one ever came over to us. We watched as other patrons became angry over the lack of service. Eventually, we just got up and left. The hostess watched us walked out and didn't say a word. It's a shame, because I see some great reviews of this place and I had been wanting to try it for a while.

To be honest, the quality and the taste are not worth the price. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the location. I come here because my family lives here and we didn't feel like driving that far for sushi. This place happens to be the only sushi place on the island. The volcano rolls were loose and all over the place. The spider rolls were not fresh. The waiter did not mention anything about the All You Can Eat deal and expected us to see it on the side of the table. Long story short, I've had better sushi rolls. Would not recommend anyone to come here and I wouldn't come here unless I'm craving sushi and don't feel like driving.

This is a great place if you are looking for good Japanese food in the St. Petersburg area. I've come here about 3 times in the last 2 years and there's always been good food. One thing that is really strange/funny about the place is that they always have the TV tuned into the Spanish channel, and no oriental music playing. Either way, good food. lol

I love sushi. I fresher the fish the better, as I tend to prefer raw fish (meow!). Tokyo Bay always has the freshest fish, the best tasting rolls, and the friendliest staff. I feel like I am coming home when I enter the restaurant, and the food, much like home cooking, nourishes not only the body but the soul. I highly recommend you try this place. Here are my favorite items: (Raw Sushi) Salmon and White Fish. (Cooked Sushi) Eel, Inari, and Octopus. Favorite Rolls: Maui Roll, King Lobster Roll, and Salmon Ginger Roll.

This place is awful. I have food poisoning I am totally disappointed with this place. I thought it was better than that but I've been throwing up all night and I'm never going back again don't stop here unless you like throwing up 7 times in 20 minutes. I prefer rain sushi which is in Tyrone

Tokyo Bay was a pleasant surprise for us. We've explored a number of sushi places downtown and haven't been thrilled with what we've found. Tokyo Bay offered a great variety of rolls made in front of you for reasonable prices. Everything was tasty, and we left full for about $50 which included an app, 2 ginger salads, and 4 rolls. The biggest negative is the decor and general appearance of the restaurant. 'Hole in the wall' would be a compliment, but we were happy with the food and were able to overlook the somewhat ramshackle environment. There is nothing cozy about this place; it is utilitarian with bright lighting, yellow walls and tables, and little decor. The sushi bar is cramped and dated. if you bring a first date here that date may be your last. That said, they actually have two chefs making the sushi right in front of you which is great. I like this as opposed to it coming from a kitchen where you can't be sure it was made to order. Score one for Tokyo Bay here. The majority of the crab rolls here use real crab, another plus. Finally the variety was extensive, everything from conch to steak to scallops with a long list of cooked and uncooked rolls. Tokyo Bay is straightforward and unpretentious. The service was quick and efficient and everything was served correctly. I can't say the sushi was the best I've ever had, but it is my favorite, and my wife's, in St. Pete when considering the overall value. The variety, good food, and reasonable price were great with one point taken off for decor.

WORST SERVICE!!! I don't even know where to begin. We called in an order and stated many times what we wanted. When we got there we paid but the amount didn't make sense. We asked to see what we paid for and with a grunt he handed us the check. It was wrong!!! We said so and he said, that it is our fault since we don't know what we want. He then went on to tell us that we don't speak English, when his "English" is barely undertandable and I am an honor student here in the US.... We complained about the costumer service and he went on to laugh at us and state "It's not bad service, you stupid" in his overly broken accent. After that we decided we no loner wanted our food and he went on to call us idiots as we left. I just wish I could give them zero stars and punch that guy who attended us.

Went here with my mother for the first time a few weeks ago. I love sushi and finally got Mom to join me for a nice dinner together. The service was excellent and the food was sushi rolls we got were fresh and tasty. Got Miso soup, Edamame and a few larger rolls with lobster and tuna. After the dinner my Mom raved about the place and said she would def go back soon! This may be our new fav place in the area. Thanks!

I'm torn between two and three stars on this one. Here's why: Food: The sushi is really quite delicious and fresh. Rolls were mostly on order, but a few pieces of nigiri were also ordered. Unfortunately, those who ordered the seafood udon soup were less impressed. While the broth was acceptable, it wasn't anything extraordinary. In the bowl itself were the udon noodles and a little bit of chopped up mushroom. Nothing else. The accompanying tempura was a bit flaccid and under-seasoned. Service: Here's where things really fall apart. We were a table of four on a Friday evening in a half-empty restaurant. Having our order taken easily took 15 minutes, plus another 45 for the sushi to arrive. Sodas cost $2.25, and both they and the waters were never refilled. The only time service was quick was when it was time to pay. I've heard of the slow food movement, but I'm not sure this is what they mean. Will I be back? Yeah. Well, maybe... Actually, nah.

I passed by Tokyo Bay on my way from Tampa to Saint Petersburg... and the sign that caught my eyes was All You Can Eat Sushi! WHAT!! O.O Anyway, I wanted to try this place out so I finally made it over one night. You're able to make reservations here though open table however it didn't seem like it would be a busy kind of place. I ordered the red and white sushi combination which came with 8 pieces of sushi (Tuna, Yellowtail, White Fish, Salmon.. and California Rolls) This came with a side order of the Korean sprouts, salad, and your choice of chicken soup or miso soup. I didn't do the AYCE sushi thing. The sushi here was better than average. It was not the best I've had but I would still come back here at least once every two weeks if I lived in the area. I would recommend this restaurant!

WORST SERVICE EVER!! I have never experienced worse service and a meaner staff. I placed an phone order, which I repeated multiple times, that they got wrong. When I asked him for the receipt, he sighed and gave it to me. When I stated that it was wrong, he said it was my fault because I didn't say it right on the phone. I, along with everyone who was with me, knows that I placed my order right but his English is so bad that he neither undestood me nor could I understand him. However, he went on to insult me and tell me that "if I only spoke English maybe I wouldn't have done it wrong". English is my first language....I complained about the bad costumer service and he said "it's not bad service, but stupid costumers" After that terrible blow I decided I no longer wanted my food and as I walked away he stated "Good. Idiots". I cannot believe I was treated this way, especially at a restaurant. Not only did he insult me but he tried to act like he's better than me when you can't even undestand him when he says hello..I have never written a mean review but I just can't get over how bad this was. Wish I could give zero stars!!!!!

Good, not great. I agree restaurant bathrooms should be pristine, but I've honestly never seen an Asian place w a clean bathroom , it does put a damper on your faith in the place....spend 200$ and clean it up.

We have been visiting Tokyo Bay for 3+ years, it became our favorite local Japanese restaurant as food is alway great and staff is very friendly. Berigu, Sunset, Surf N' Turf, Tuna Martini!. Another reason to go here - our kids choice, they love it, there is no kids menu but kids love shrimp tempura and ramen noodles, and ice cream!!! Highly recommended!

Stopped by here for dinner because it was one of the few places open late on Sunday night, other than bars. The food was pretty good, they had a very unique assortment of rolls. The sashimi was only so-so, small pieces but fresh nonetheless.

We came to the restaurant in April 2015. The service was ok - very polite and about average regarding service. The water was served without ice, for example. It is on the water so there is pretty views of fountains. The food was hit or miss. We got the all you can eat. You can't order another roll if you aren't done with your last. Seems fair right? But what happens when you don't like one? The answer is you can't order another. That seems like a rule that needs to change, in my opinion. Also I found a few roaches. One was almost dead and instead of disposing of it they released it and the guy bragged about saving a bug. All in all it was an ok experience. We did enjoy most of the sushi - especially the gator rolls. Without the good being for the most part very tasty I think the rating would have been much lower.

Me love Tokyo Bay long time! In other words: I've been going to Tokyo Bay for years and they never disappoint! The sushi is always fresh, the service is great, and I always make a point to go there when I'm in town... Highly recommend!

I found this place through Groupon...I am so glad I did!! It is on the way to St. Pete beach so you do have to pay the $.50 toll to come here. The quality of seafood is great! When I ate the scallop sushi, you can taste the freshness and good quality. They literally melted in my mouth. Try their speciality rolls too. I liked their coconut shrimp roll. They do not skimp on fish like other sushi places tend to...very important factor to me. Now they are doing all you can eat sushi for $23 EVERYDAY. For me I do not think it is worth doing because I wouldn't be able to eat that much. However for people who can eat more than 4 rolls, it is a good option. I would love to come back to this place on the way back from st. pete beach :D

I originally really liked this place, but the last few times I've been have been underwhelming. I still enjoy the food, but the service is really going downhill. Last time we were there we were greeted by the hostess actually sighing in exasperation at us being there. I can understand being stressed out by a wait, but you should never make the customer feel unwelcome. We were told it would be about a 20 minute wait and we were fine with that. We then waited 40 minutes for a table. My boyfriend was ready to leave, but we had a Groupon that was going to expire. Once we were sat, we then waited, no lie, 15 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that we were sitting there. The whole experience made me feel like I was bothering them by being there and I'm a pretty forgiving person when it comes to dining out. I may go back for the vegetarian bento box, but if I do it will be on a weeknight and I will not be expecting a nice dinner out.

I don't know if I just went on a bad day, but from my experience its only worth 2 stars. The service was pretty slow and we had to wait quite a while on our food. The sushi was ok and the Miso soup tasted a bit different than what I'm used too. The server was on her cell phone most of the time texting or maybe even checking Facebook. I wouldn't come back here. First impression wasn't a lasting one.

Slow service good food. We ordered a sushi boat and it took about 45 minutes to come. Appetizer never came- waitress completely forgot to put the order in. Plus she provided large pint glasses to serve sake in. We had to ask for everything: sake cups, extra glasses, plates, napkins... I think it was Shirina's first day on the job. Boat was good, sushi and sashimi tasted great but took longer than ordinary to deliver it to the table. If you come here, don't expect great service.

We've been here several times and every dish has been superb. I've had the chicken yakisoba, the all- you-can-eat sushi and the udon noodles with shrimp tempura. My only criticism is that the miso can be overly salty sometimes. The salad dressing on the salad is amazing - gingery with a slight kick. Our friends who ordered the maui roll were so impressed that they ordered 2 more of the same thing. The service is welcoming and attentive and the last time we went, they went out of their way to seat us at a window with a view of the water. They also graciously kept the restaurant open beyond the closing time because our friends from out of town were late in arriving.

This place reminded of a small diner. The Bento box I ordered made me feel like I was eating in a expensive Japanese diner! They had tons of Sushi to order too. The staff were professional, and friendly. We will definitely be back!

I LOVE this restaurant! I has the BEST tempura in all of Tampa Bay to me and I have been to several. Their sushi always tastes fresh and flavorful. Their entrees are amazingly delicious. They even do all you can eat sushi on certain days. Their yum yum roll makes for a great "dessert" sushi. My new favorite is the king lobster roll! Its an entire lobster tail turned into 2 different sushi rolls. The staff is very friendly and the food comes out fast!

I read about the AYCE roll deal and came to check it out. I knew I was scammed after the waitress brought out a special AYCE menu and it only had the BASIC ROLLS. Yep, stuck with infinite amounts of crap spicy tuna and veggie rolls. After scanning the wall boards and seeing the special rolls, I reluctantly declined the AYCE offer. Yeah, I was a bit miffed. If it was earlier I would have called it right there and just went to Sushi Fune, where I know the food is excellent. Figured I would give it a shot, so I ordered Edamame, Spring Rolls, Japanese Bagel, Sunomono salad, Chicken Katsu, and a Volcano Roll. My daughter had the Chicken Katsu, breaded chicken on a stick, which was alright. She also had the Japanese Bagel roll, its easy salmon, cucumber, cream cheese. The Spring rolls were pretty decent, veggies and imitation crab wrapped in a clear rice noodle with a strip of that sweet egg stuff. The Volcano roll (the most pricey on the list) was booring and uninspired. They just scattered a California roll on a plate and indiscriminately plopped a scoop of "assorted fish" swimming in the spicy sauce. The fish seemed to be some salmon, tuna, and a majority of unrecognizable white fish. I would say that this place deserves about 3.5 stars, but the people were very nice and friendly and the food was good but it lacked the little touches like presentation.

The best Japanese food I've had since leaving San Francisco, Tokyo Bay offers the freshest ingredients in a comfortable setting. overlooking a lagoon. My friend and I shared the Veggie Tempura and I have to say..it was perfectly fired, not a hint of oil!! I could have eaten this all night. I had the Spicy Tako, octopus in a cucumber salad, we split the Bento box..shrimp and veggie tempura, teriyaki chicken, gyozas and a California roll. Delish! The staff was great..I so want to come back here soon.

We waited about 30 minutes for our salad and when we asked for our sushi, the server told s that she forgot to give up the order. My mom ordered chicken with rice and vegetables, bt the server just brought us the chicken...We had to ask for the rest... Quality of the sushi isn't the best... There're other places to eat than at Tokyo Bay. We'll never eat there again!!!

Went here a couple of weeks ago based on the reviews. What I found was not to my standard. Overall appearance of place was ok, service was a bit sketchy and not consistent even though we sat at the sushi bar. Personally I felt the service operated on a knee jerk reaction to what was happening at the moment. The sushi we ordered was good and fresh though. My bad was trying to order Korean food from the menu, this place does not do Korean food very well. Meat was tough, not very tasty, but again, my bad for ordering Korean food in a Japanese place. I might give this place another try, but not any time soon.

My husband and I tried numerous sushi places in the bay area and finally found Tokyo Bay down the street from us. Oh my goodness, it is delicious!! The fish is incredibly fresh and the staff friendly and prompt. We loved the spicy tuna, mexican, waz up be, kentucky, and the yummy (tempura sweet potato with avocado-our fave by far) rolls. We now compare every sushi place to Tokyo Bay and have been craving it since we moved to Arizona! The only negatives are that they switched the salad dressing (which used to be sooo tasty) and that their all-you-can-eat sushi nights are pretty expensive in comparison to others we have tried.

I've been coming to this place regularly 1-3 times a week for about 6 months now. If I had found out about it earlier, then I would've came in much sooner since my move from L.A. in Nov. 2008. Coming from L.A. where sushi spots are a dime a dozen, I am very picky about my sushi and rolls. This place definitely satisfies my expectations. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the service is always good and the sushi consistently fresh and delicious. A++

i only go to florida about once a year, but i might start going more often now that i've found tokyo bay! tokyo bay is cute and casual, and the food is great! the ginger tofu stir fry is just about my perfect dish -- both healthy and delicious -- and the rest of my party liked the big sushi boat they got. the waitress was nice and prices were reasonable.... yup, i'm definitely going to have to come back to st pete so i can go to tokyo bay again!

Freshest seafood, friendly service and a wide variety of choices but ominous rules and hefty price increase leaves my stomach uneasy. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Tampa Bay, that being said I'm only giving it four stars for anxiety-inducing rules! I love the seafood at this place and I keep going back for it. The sushi chefs know how to make a maki and slice that sashimi. The sushi here is the freshest tasting in the area and I highly recommend it for sushi snobs! The sashimi/sushi boat is generous and delicious and more than enough for two people! I love to try all their raw maki but the simple sashimi platter is great too, that's my number one choice. The new arrangement of tables leaves no privacy when you're 6 inches away from another dining pair on either side of you. Next time I'll choose to sit at the sushi bar. They've increased the prices since I left the area a couple years ago so I no longer think it's the great value that it once was but I know, I know, it's a recession. They've also introduces an "all you can eat maki" night on Thursdays(?) which isn't cheap at $23 per person and unless you're eating more than four or five maki, it's not a good value. I can't eat more than that but I know my other dinner guests can. Here's the thing that was most annoying. There are several rules when you choose the "maki buffet" and they appear very strict about it, which I can understand some conditions need to apply since people take many liberties with these deals. there is a "sharing" fee of $23 (same price as the all you can eat deal, duh) and I feel that if I take one or two bites from my fiance's plate and the server sees, I have to be charged $23? The rules continue when you order the maki, three initially then one at a time, etc. etc. The servers keep repeating the rules which eventually leaves me paranoid if I do not follow them to the T (as in no sharing!). Look, I know what its like to run a restaurant but c'mon, I'm so busy thinking about all the conditions, multiple menus and hearing the thoughts of the people next to me (because they sit so close) that I can't enjoy the dining experience, the food nor relax. I'll come back for the sushi but I won't go out of my way for the inflated prices and stringent policies of the "specials".

The service sucks and is super slow. Aside from that they have a great early bird menu. You get a salad, soup, and two rolls for $12, and they offer great rolls for the early bird not just a plain tuna roll or salmon roll. I usually get one of the yellowtail/salmon rolls and another salmon roll. The catch is you can't take home the left overs. In previous years when i was training for 10k races all the time, I would splurge on their $20 all you can eat sushi on tuesdays and wednesdays, but those times are past. It's a good deal if you are a big eater.
